Project Executive - Electricity Transmission/Distribution & Substation
The Project Executive leads and supervises project teams, ensuring successful execution of transmission, distribution, and substation projects, from inception to completion. Responsibilities encompass strategic planning, resource and risk management, budget oversight, safety planning, stakeholder communication, and team development. This role also supports commercial development teams for upcoming projects.
The Project Executive may perform project management duties onsite and coordinates with executive management for operational decisions.
Duties
Lead integrated Design-Build (DB)/Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams from project inception through completion, including pursuit phases.
Oversee engineering design and construction activities, ensuring coordination and direction.
Administer and manage prime contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
Develop and enforce health, safety, and quality assurance/control plans.
Plan, execute, and report on project performance to stakeholders.
Maintain effective communication with customers and coordinate at the jobsite.
Identify, mitigate, and resolve potential disputes.
Supervise Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers; coordinate with Construction Managers, project controls, and safety representatives; lead and motivate teams to achieve goals and milestones.
Respond to and/or oversee Requests for Information (RFIs).
Conduct value engineering and constructability reviews.
Develop procurement status reports and define work segregation for subcontracts and purchase orders.
Coordinate local bidding efforts with procurement teams.
Oversee subcontracts and purchase orders; review and approve related invoices.
Manage subcontractor and supplier submittals.
Develop project-specific schedules in collaboration with relevant teams.
Monitor progress of design and construction activities.
Manage changes to the prime contract.
Develop a project-specific Schedule of Values.
Submit and expedite progress payments.
Prepare and present monthly reports on progress, budget forecasting, and schedule management.
Perform project close-out, warranty administration, and post-construction cost review and reporting.
Ensure optimal relations among stakeholders and act as liaison between departments.
Train, develop, and mentor junior staff.
Interface with clients and lead client-focused teams to meet organizational objectives.
Identify, recommend, and implement productivity improvements and cost reductions.
Lead multi-unit teams to complete major projects across service territories.
Required Experience and Education
- 10+ years’ experience in Construction Project Management, preferably with direct Design/Build of EPC projects or major programs in the power delivery industry.
- Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in transmission, distribution, and substation work.
- Proficiency in engineering, design, construction, contracting methodologies, project planning and management tasks, including estimating, scheduling, bidding, project administration, contract management, field supervision, budget control, safety, and quality assurance.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, construction science/management, engineering, or equivalent field; equivalent work experience or combination of work and education may be substituted.
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of integrated Engineering/Procurement/Construction (EPC) processes and project lifecycle.
- In-depth knowledge of the power delivery industry, safety and environmental best practices, and quality control measures.
- Strong problem-solving and team-building skills.
Effective management and supervision within a matrix organization.
Understanding of project design processes during pursuit and execution phases.
Familiarity with construction means and methods.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Proficiency in estimating, scheduling, and project management software; Primavera P6 and Procore preferred.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, JD Edwards, and Procore (a plus)
