Job Description – Sr. Project Accountant The Sr. Project Accountant performs specialized accounting functions and internal controls for procedures and practices in accordance with company policies, accounting procedures, and contractual obligations. This role will work directly with Project Managers/Assistant Project Managers and Project Controls to manage and coordinate company and project accounting systems to monitor department general ledger accounts, project budgets, invoicing, payables, receivables, and other related financial information.
Duties
Reviews and analyzes project financial data
Audits compliance with contractual requirements, which may include invoicing and reporting format, revenue and cash projections, and financial quality control
Advises management on financial performance of projects
Reviews activity of projects specific to project accounting and contractual obligations
Conducts accurate contract documentation, administration, and maintenance, including fee and budget entry
Works with section and project personnel to provide timely contract performance data and resolves financial issues
Assists multiple Project Managers and staff on a daily basis with project accounting related inquiries
Provides detailed analysis and reporting on project status within an established system of project controls
Analyzes and develops reporting associated with various project accounting job duties, such as project baseline, work package agreements, cost control, cost estimation, earned value management (EVM), projections, variance analysis, schedules, project/program/portfolio integration, and technical project reviews
Supports the technical project management team in project management activities
Serves as the centralized point of contact to internal and external business partners
Teams with technical staff, project leads, and managers to make recommendations to influence key decision-makers within the scope of project controls (work breakdown structure, schedule, and budget/cost)
Utilizes information management, access controls management, configuration management, program integration and communications, and risk management processes to support project teams
Analyzes, prepares, validates, and maintains cost estimates, detailed baseline budgets, work package agreements, and monthly cost variance reports
Utilizes earned value management techniques, or other management techniques, to understand relationships between planned work, executed work, and actual costs
Analyzes the schedule to ensure that schedule logic is consistent and maintained; analyzes what-if scenarios and conducts critical-path reviews (including secondary or tertiary critical-path, where applicable)
Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
Performs special projects and completes other duties as assigned or requested
Required Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Minimum of 4 years experience within the Accounting/Finance function
Experience working within an ERP system
Preferred Experience and Education
Experience working within JD Edwards
4+ years of project accounting experience
Skills
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SOX compliance requirements
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
Self-starter who can work independently while supporting the needs of the team
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
Effective time management skills: ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
